Women's Soccer Squeaks Past Bowling Green

Sept. 11, 2000

LAS VEGAS- The UNLV women's soccer team squeaked past the Falcons from Bowling Green Monday, to improve its record to 4-2 on the year under first year head coach Dan Abdalla.

The Rebels took the early lead on a cross pass from freshman Kelly Oshay to Cosette Joffs for the score at the 15:21 mark, giving Joffs three goals on the season. The rest of the first half was a very physical affair. There were 17 penalties combined in just the first half alone and a yellow card was issued to Bowling Green as well.

Not more than eight minutes into the second half, the Rebels tallied another goal. This time sophomore Cristyn Enea got behind the defender and scored on a pass from Anita Pedford. At the 70:32 mark, a foul was committed by the Rebels inside the 18 and the Falcons were issued a penalty kick. Freshman keeper, Heidi Hart made a great diving save on the penalty kick, however, Falcon's midfielder Tracy Glexner put a ball passed Hart on the rebound to cut the score to 2-1.

The Rebels hung on to win the match even though 37 fouls were committed between the two teams and the Rebels only had nine total shots. UNLV hits the road for two games this weekend against Boise State and Idaho State. Coach Abdalla's squad returns home Sept. 23 to face San Francisco at 7:00 p.m.
