Sept. 27, 2000

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's basketball team has named Jan Bethea its new Director of Operations, head coach Regina Miller announced on Wednesday.

Bethea comes to Las Vegas from the Women's Basketball Coaches Association in Lilburn, Ga., where she was the Events Manager for the High School All-America game. She was responsible for overseeing the planning, development and execution of the game that featured 20 of the top high school senior girls from across the country.

"Jan brings a wealth of experience to us in the areas of organization and administrative skills," Miller said. "This position requires an energetic, creative and extremely organized person, and Jan fits that mold perfectly."

Prior to her stint as the Events Manager, Bethea served as the Events Coordinator with the WBCA and also spent a year as the president of her own event planning company, Ultimate Events.

While completing her course work at St. Augustine's College in Raleigh, N.C., she was also the school's Director of Intramurals and an Assistant Academic Coordinator in the athletics department. She held that position until receiving her bachelor's degree in physical education in 1995.

Bethea went on to earn her master's degree in sports administration from St. Thomas University in Miami, Fla., in 1998, while working as an Academic Monitor for student-athletes at the University of Miami.
