ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico's women's basketball team used a 35-2 run to erase a 15-point deficit and hand UNLV its worst defeat of the season, 79-51, at The Pit in front of 7,508 on Thursday.
The Rebels (11-4, 1-2) led by as many as 15 late in the first half before the Lobos (11-6, 2-1) got hot, scoring 11 unanswered points over the last 3:29. Despite the run, UNLV clung to a 33-29 advantage at the break.
UNM kept its run alive in the second half, however, scoring the first seven points of the second half and rolling out to a 53-35 lead before the Rebels rediscovered their offense.
Aside from UNLV's offensive frustrations, Linda Fr?hlich led the squad with 21 points, and Constance Jinks chipped in with 18, the duo combining for more than 75 percent of the Rebels' offense. Jordan Adams led the Lobos in the scoring column with 24, followed by Miranda Sanchez, who scored 22, including 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range.
The loss snaps UNLV's three-game winning streak in the series.
The Rebels will finish their road swing in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Saturday when they tangle with Air Force at Clune Arena at 1:00 p.m. PST.
