Jan. 29, 2001

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV junior forward Linda Fr?hlich was named the Mountain West Conference women's basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Fr?hlich earned the award after leading her team to its biggest victory of the year, a 82-41 win at San Diego State. It was the second time this season and fifth time in her career that the Rebels' All-American has received the award.

In her only action last week, Fr?hlich scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds with three blocks and three steals. With her fourth point in the game, she tallied her 1,500th career point and achieved the milestone on the same floor where she recorded her 1,000th career point last season.

Her 21 points lifted her career scoring total to 1,517, which ranks fifth on the UNLV all-time scoring list. She surpassed both Gwynn Hobbs and Donya Monroe on the list and needs only 376 to top Misty Thomas as the Rebels' all-time scoring leader.

Fr?hlich upped her season scoring average to 18.3 ppg, which leads the Mountain West Conference. She is also tied for the league lead in rebounding and ranks second in both steals and three-point shooting percentage.

The Lady Rebels return home this week for a pair of MWC games. They host Colorado State on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 7:35 p.m. in the Thomas & Mack Center in a battle for third place. On Saturday, Feb. 3, UNLV is sponsoring its "Pack the Mack 2" promotion and will try to break the school record for attendance against Wyoming at 7:35 p.m.
