LAS VEGAS - A three goal lead in the first half was enough, as the UNLV women's soccer team cruised past Southern Utah, 4-1, Tuesday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field in Las Vegas.
With only one minute and nine seconds ticking off the game clock, senior midfielder Anita Pedford repelled her own rebounded shot toward the net for the first goal of the night. Sophomore Erin Egertson later put away the Rebels' second of the game, flying from the left side to connect on a double assisted play by senior Janae Sims and junior Cristyn Enea at 33:59.
Again, Pedford would find the back of the net from 12-yards out on the right at 36:02, to put the Rebels three-up before the half.
In the 51st minute, Southern Utah's Lindsey Mulliner captured her first goal of the year courtesy of teammate Lindsey Boyer. Senior midfielder Suzanne Jensen scored an unassisted goal at 68:18 to cushion the lead back to three for the Rebels. UNLV would (10-5-2) outshoot SUU (2-14-0) 19-6.
Freshman goalkeeper Desiree Kelly played the entire game with two saves for a perfect 3-0 record in goal. Until the Thunderbirds' score at the 51:40 minute mark, Kelly had not given up a goal for 231:40 minutes. She currently holds a 0.33 goals against average.
The Rebels close out the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 3 against Mountain West Conference foe San Diego State at 7:30 p.m. The home match with the Aztecs will mark "Senior Day" for six graduating seniors on the squad. Five of the seniors have been members since the program's inception in 1998.
