WHAT'S COOKIN'
The UNLV women's basketball team hosts the Cox Communications / Lady Rebel Shootout over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend on Nov. 24 & 25. The four-team tournament field includes Sacramento State, Seton Hall and Tennessee Tech. The Lady Rebels' first opponent will be Sacramento State on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 7:35 p.m., with Tennessee Tech and Seton Hall facing off prior to that match at 5 p.m. The consolation game will be played on Sunday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. and championship game to follow at 4:30 p.m. UNLV will play in the late game on each date.
SHOOTING FOR A CURE
The Lady Rebels continue their community outreach this season with their effort to "Shoot for a Cure" and help in the fight against breast cancer. UNLV Athletics will be donating half of the ticket proceeds from this weekend's holiday tournament to the American Cancer Society to aid in the cause. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $2 for kids. The women's basketball team also volunteered their time on Oct. 6 at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in Henderson.
SCOUTING REPORTS
Sacramento State (0-3): Averaging three straight losses by a margin of 40+ points, Sacramento State hopes to turn things around with its three-day road trip to Las Vegas. In their season opening games, the Hornets fell to No. 25 Colorado State (102-30) and Wyoming (101-47), both Mountain West rivals of UNLV. The Hornets return only one letterwinner from last season's squad, which finished 3-23.
Seton Hall (2-0): The Pirates out of the BIG EAST Conference come into this weekend's tournament with a pair of home wins over Binghamton (61-44) and New Hampshire (71-61). Seton Hall would finish the 2000-01 campaign at 16-12 overall. They currently hold an RPI rating of 41, along with Tennessee Tech.
Tennessee Tech (1-1): The defending Ohio Valley Conference champions return to Las Vegas for their fourth appearance in a holiday tournament hosted by UNLV. The Golden Eaglettes opened their season last week with a 22-point victory over Mississippi, 76-56, on Nov. 16. They would later fall to Mississippi State, 97-85, on Nov. 18 for their current 1-1 record.
SERIES HISTORY
UNLV holds a 1-0 all-time series advantage over Sacramento State, while Tennessee Tech leads the series 3-1. The Lady Rebels last defeated the Hornets of Sacramento State, 78-64, in the Nassau Sun Splash Shootout during the 1999-2000 season. In four meetings with Tennessee Tech (ironically all in UNLV hosted tournaments), UNLV has only defeated the Eaglettes once, a 79-61 win in the consolation game of the UNLV / 7-UP Classic in 1993-94. If the Lady Rebels should face Seton Hall on Sunday, it will mark a first time meeting between both schools.
UNLV COACH REGINA MILLER
Regina Miller enters her fourth season as head coach. In the Miller Era, the Lady Rebels have posted three consecutive winning seasons, with last year's team making their first postseason tournament appearance since 1994. Miller has compiled a 53-33 career winning record at UNLV, the best coaching record in the last decade of the program. With the success she has established in a short period of time in Las Vegas, Miller is looking to keep the program heading in an upward direction in 2001/02.
FR?HLICH vs. THOMAS
Senior WBCA/Kodak All-American Finalist and two-time All-American (Honorable Mention) Linda Fr?hlich is on mark to break the UNLV all-time scoring record held by former Lady Rebel Misty Thomas (1982-86). Fr?hlich currently ranks second all-time with 1,796 career points and needs a magic number "97" to eclipse a record that has held up for nearly 15 years. If Fr?hlich continues to average the same 19.4 ppg as she did last year, it will only take her six games into the 2001/02 season to accomplish that feat. Fr?hlich currently leads the Mountain West Conference in rebounds averaging 13.5 rpg.
MEET THE LADY REBELS
The Lady Rebels are coming off their best season in seven years, finishing the 2000/01 campaign at 19-10 overall, 8-6 MWC for a tied for third place finish in conference play. UNLV would make its first postseason appearance since 1994 with a berth in the postseason Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT), where the Lady Rebels advanced past the first round with a 59-56 win over Loyola Marymount. Their run would later be stopped short with a four-point loss to Oklahoma State (71-67) in the second round. Returning to the lineup are three starters and six key letterwinners from last year's squad. The Lady Rebels are currently tied for 63rd in the RPI ratings index and received votes in the latest Associated Press and USA TODAY / ESPN Coaches Top 25 Polls. UNLV also stands first in the Mountain West Conference standings with a current 2-0 (1.000) overall record.

Both teams were followed by BYU (81), UNLV (68), New Mexico (62), Wyoming (40), San Diego State (35) and Air Force (14).
THE MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE
Ranked the seventh best conference in the women's basketball RPI ratings, the Mountain West Conference has become one of the premier leagues in the sport. It will also be the third year for all of the women's basketball schedule to be heard over the Internet and throughout the world on www.unlvrebels.com. Bob Blum, the dean of West Coast broadcasters, begins his 15th season calling play-by-play for Lady Rebel Basketball on KENO 1460 AM.
