Box Score
BERKELEY, Calif. - Four Lady Rebels scored in double figures, as the UNLV women's basketball team cruised past Central Connecticut State, 83-28, Sunday afternoon in the consolation game of the Oakland Tribune Classic.
With the win, the Lady Rebels claimed their fifth win of the season and a third-place finish at the two-day tournament hosted by Cal. Senior forward Linda Fr?hlich (Oldendorf, Germany) had a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore Petra Gl?ser (Amtsberg, Germany) contributed 12. Junior Talisha Mitchell (Stockton, Calif.) and senior Courtney Swanson (San Diego, Calif.) each had a career-high 10 points in the 55-point blowout over CCSU.
The Blue Devils (0-5) would commit 34 turnovers and shoot only 23.3 percent from the field, allowing UNLV to 14 steals. The Lady Rebels (5-1) used that to their advantage, with all 13 players getting key minutes in the game and 11 contributing points to the final score. Senior Kinesha Davis (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) turned in a game-high four steals along with nine points off the bench.
Central Connecticut had the lead only once in the early part of the first half, and it would not be enough to keep them ahead. This is the second largest margin of victory of the 2001-02 season for UNLV, after taking a 58-point (92-34) win over Sacramento State on Nov. 24.
Still remaining on the road, UNLV will next travel to intrastate rival Nevada, Reno on Sunday, Dec. 9 for a non-conference game slated for 2 p.m. in Reno. The game will be broadcast locally on KENO 1460 AM and via an Internet link on unlvrebels.com.
FR?HLICH vs. THOMAS WATCH: Senior WBCA/Kodak All-American finalist Linda Fr?hlich is on the brink of breaking the UNLV all-time scoring record of 1,892 points held by former All-American standout Misty Thomas (1982-86). With her 20 points today, Fr?hlich (1,890 career points) needs just three more points to break the 15-year-old school record.
