Women's Basketball Takes Down Tennessee, Martin

LAS VEGAS - Senior All-American forward Linda Fr?hlich (Oldendorf, Germany) had a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds as the UNLV women's basketball team defeated Tennessee, Martin, 91-68, Friday night at the Cox Pavilion.

For the second consecutive game, the Lady Rebels held their opponents scoreless in the first four minutes of regulation with an 8-0 run. Sophomore Petra Gl?ser (Amtsberg, Germany) had five of the Lady Rebels' first eight points in the opening minutes, leading to a season-high 19 points and seven rebounds. Fr?hlich and Gl?ser were two-of-four UNLV players to score in double figures.

Junior Constance Jinks (Chicago, Ill.) had 16 points and eight assists, while junior Julia Gray (Riverside, Calif.) contributed a season-high 12 points. Gray, a transfer from the University of Washington, grabbed four steals and beat the buzzer with a 3-point shot at the end of the first half, to give the Lady Rebels a 45-29 lead at halftime.

Early in the second half, Tennessee, Martin would shave the lead to 10 points, but it would not be enough for a turnaround. With 7:40 remaining on the clock, UT Martin co-head coach Gary Van Atta received a double technical foul and was ejected from the arena.

For the game, the Lady Rebels would score 26 points off 19 turnovers committed by the Skyhawks. UNLV improves its overall record to 9-1, while UT Martin drops to 2-9. Junior T.J. Barker led the Skyhawks with 16 points.

The Lady Rebels return to action on Sunday, Dec. 30 hosting UC Santa Barbara at 4:30 p.m. As part of a doubleheader night, the UNLV-UCSB game will be played in the Thomas & Mack Center prior to the UNLV men's basketball match versus Old Dominion at 7:05 p.m. The women's game will be broadcast live in Las Vegas on KENO 1460 AM and via an Internet link on unlvrebels.com.
