COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV sophomore guard Constance Jinks has been named the Mountain West Conference women's basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
In her only action on the court last week, Jinks scored 26 points against league rival San Diego State, including sinking an 18-foot jump shot with two seconds remaining to give UNLV a 68-67 come-from-behind victory.
Jinks' final bucket marked the first time in the second half that the Rebels led and erased an 18-point lead enjoyed by the Aztecs with 10 minutes to play.
The award finds Jinks for the second time in her career. She was honored on Dec. 4, 2000 after earning most valuable player honors at the Roger L. White Invitational in Evanston, Ill., and leading UNLV to the tournament title with a career-high 33 points in the championship game.
It also marks the second consecutive week the league's award has gone to a Rebel and sixth time this season, while no other school in the league has been honored more than three times.
Jinks and the Lady Rebels wrap up the 2000-01 regular season this week with a pair of road game. They play at Wyoming on Thursday, March 1 and at Colorado State on Saturday, March 3.
