Women's Soccer Announces Fall Schedule

March 1, 2001

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team announced its 2001 fall schedule on Thursday. Coach Dan Abdalla enters his second season at the helm of the women's soccer program. Last season, the Rebels finished 11-9, their first winning season in the three-year history of the program.

The Rebels begin the season with the UNLV Classic on August, 31 against Long Beach State, a team the Rebels beat last year and junior Janae Sims recorded the first hat trick in school history. The Rebels will cap the weekend off with a game against Washington State, an NCAA team from last year.

UNLV travels to San Diego for a tournament the next weekend, facing Big 12 foe Kansas and a traditionally tough South Carolina team from the SEC. The Rebels return home for a date with UC-Riverside on Sept. 12, followed by road trips to Idaho and Eastern Washington. On Sept. 21, Cal-Berkley comes to Vegas, a top-10 team from last season. The Rebels continue their tour of the Pac-10 with a road trip to Arizona that weekend. NCAA qualifier Cal Poly comes to Las Vegas on Sept. 28 followed by a home date with the Aggies of Utah State on Sept. 30.

The in-state rival will begin on Oct. 2 when the Nevada-Reno comes to Vegas for the first time ever. Reno finished its first season of soccer last fall. The Rebels travel to Flagstaff, Ariz., for a game with Northern Arizona on Oct. 6.

MWC play begins on Oct. 11 as the Rebels host NCAA qualifier and MWC Champion BYU, followed by conference tournament runner-up Utah. UNLV make its first conference road trip on Oct. 19-26, with games at Air Force, Wyoming and New Mexico. UNLV concludes the regular season with a home game against San Diego State on Nov. 1. UNLV will host the MWC Tournament Nov. 6-9 at Peter Johann Field.
