Men's Tennis Rolls Into Semis With Shutout

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The 73rd-ranked UNLV men's tennis team defeated a higher-ranked opponent for the second time on the same day with a 4-0 blanking of 65th-ranked Louisiana-Lafayette in the second round of the HEB Tennis Classic Friday.

The Rebels improved to 5-2 overall while the Ragin' Cajuns fell to 4-8.

UNLV, which had advanced with a 4-2 upset of 18th-ranked Oklahoma State earlier in the day, won two of three doubles matches for one team point. Thomas Schneiter and Leslie Eisinga teamed up to win at No. 2 while Danny Erez and Artin Tafazoli clinched the doubles point at No. 3.

In singles, Rebel players won all three completed matches. Schneiter swept at the second position, 6-3, 7-5, over Jakob Ilowski, Tafazoli took care of Michael Tarkowski, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 5 and Eisinga completed the shutout by winning 6-4, 6-4 at the sixth spot over Carson Mays.

UNLV, which has won five straight, will play in Saturday's semifinals vs. 15th-ranked South Alabama. The tournament concludes Sunday.
