MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The 55th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team won its second match of the day by upsetting No. 41 Harvard to advance at the prestigious Blue-Gray Tennis Classic Thursday.
The Rebels improved to 7-4 overall and won their third match over a ranked team in less than a week.
UNLV nearly won the match in singles play. Nenad Zivkovic, ranked 45th, won at the second spot, Erez won at three and Tafazoli held on at the fifth position in three sets. However, Schneiter lost a heartbreaker 6-7, 7-5, 7-6 at the top spot and Gregor Skorin was nipped 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 at the four. The Crimson evened things at three points with a victory at the sixth position.
In doubles play, the teams split at the Nos. 2-3 spots before Zivkovic and Skorin held on to win at the No. 1 position, 8-6.
UNLV will face No. 30 Indiana State in Friday's third round. The Sycamores advanced by upsetting No. 20 Alabama on Thursday. The tournament runs through Saturday.
