Box Score
AUSTIN, Texas - Just over par was a good enough score on Monday as the UNLV men's golf team sits in sixth place after the first two rounds of the Cleveland Golf Morris Williams Intercollegiate.
Only two teams in the 15-school field remained under par on the Austin Country Club Course. Top-ranked Georgia Tech, which won the Las Vegas Intercollegiate just two weeks ago, leads at three-under par, one stroke ahead of Oklahoma State.
All of the other schools were even par or higher through two rounds, including UNLV at seven-over. The Rebels are just 10 strokes off the lead and five behind fifth-place Pepperdine, bringing up the rear of a tightly packed group atop the leaderboard.
The Yellow Jackets can thank Bryce Molder for the one-stroke lead. The senior set the pace on the course Monday, finishing the day with a two-stroke advantage at nine-under par.
UNLV's James Oh lies close behind. Rebounding from his worst outing as a collegian two weeks ago, the freshman star turned in rounds of 71 and 72 to finish the day one-under par and tied for ninth place.
Senior Scott Lander, looking for his third consecutive top-10 finish, has a little ground to make up. After a first-round 74, Lander trimmed three strokes off his next round and rolled into the clubhouse at one-over par and tied for 17th.
Freshman Brandon Askew, making his collegiate debut, followed Lander's lead. He improved two strokes after firing a 74 in the first round and trails Lander by just one shot.
Clark Corbett, a transfer making his first appearance in the UNLV lineup, followed his first-round 74 with a five-over 77 and sits seven stroke over par, tied for 50th. He holds a two-stroke lead over teammate Calvin Kupeyan. After throwing out Kupeyan's 78 in the first round, the sophomore responded with a four-over 75 to count toward the team's total.
At last year's Morris Williams, the Rebels made up 13 strokes on the final day to force a one-hole playoff with BYU for the team crown. They are only 10 strokes off Georgia Tech's pace.
The Rebels lead Mountain West Conference rivals New Mexico by five strokes and enjoy a 16-shot lead over BYU. They will begin their chase of Tech and the rest of the pack on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. CT.
