Women's Soccer Falls to No. 13 California

Sept. 21, 2001

LAS VEGAS - A second half comeback made by senior Marni Polakow was not enough as the UNLV women's soccer team fell to No. 13 nationally-ranked California, 3-1, Friday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field in Las Vegas.

Polakow, a defender, scored in the 55th minute after sending a clear shot into the right corner of the net on a pass from freshman Annii Magliulo to give the Rebels a 1-1 tie. This marked only her third career goal in a Rebel uniform.

California's Kacy Hornor would be the first scorer of the night at the 16:05 minute mark, later picking up her second score and eventual game-winning goal off a free kick in the 67th minute.

The Rebels (2-2-2) hung tough against the Golden Bears (5-1) for much of the game. Senior Alice Gleason recorded five saves in 90 minutes of play in goal, while Cal's Mallory Moser stopped one.

UNLV goes on the road this weekend to face another Pac-10 Conference opponent on Sunday, Sept. 23. The Rebels will next meet the Arizona Wildcats in Tucson, Arizona, at 1 p.m. (MDT).
