Sept. 23, 2001

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - UNLV men's golf freshman Ryan Moore carded back-to-back par rounds on Friday and stands tied for ninth overall at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the Championship Course at UNM.

Behind the play of Moore, the Rebels sit fifth, eight stroke over par after two rounds. As a team, UNLV finished each of the opening day's rounds at four-over par.

The Rebels are 12 strokes off the pace of host New Mexico, who leads the tourney at four-under par and the only school to post a sub-par score.

The Rebels' other freshman in competition, J.C. Deacon, also turned in an impressive debut. With rounds of 74 and 73, the Unionville, Ont., native is tied for 22nd at three-over par.

Among those tied with Deacon is UNLV junior Brett Foulds (73-74--147). Sophomore Brandon Askew (75-73--148) is one stroke back and tied for 28th, and senior Clark Corbett (73-79--152) is tied for 59th.

UNLV's Calvin Kupeyan (75-77--152), playing as an individual, is also tied for 59th.

Southeastern Louisiana's Andy Smith (67-72--139) clings to a two stroke lead over New Mexico's Wil Collins (67-74--141) and Michael Letzig (68-73--141) in the individual race.

The final round will begin on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. MDT.
