No. 7 Washington Blanks Men's Soccer

Sept. 28, 2001

SEATTLE - Before a crowd of 1,006, the UNLV men's soccer team were shut out 2-0 by seventh-ranked Washington Friday night at Husky Soccer Stadium in Seattle.

Both teams would not be able to find a score in the first half. Later, in the 76th minute, Washington gained a 1-0 lead behind a goal from Greg Foisie assisted by Billy Sleeth. Less than a minute would pass when Trevor Frobose scored off a Rebel defender on a pass into the box, to put the game out of reach 2-0.

The Huskies outshot the Rebels 22-3 and received 12 corner kick opportunities throughout two periods of play. Junior goalkeeper Justin Dennis cleared six saves for UNLV, while UW's Chad Olsen earned the shutout with two stops in goal.

UNLV goes to 4-3 on the season, while UW improves to 5-1. This is the second consecutive ranked team and opponent with the nickname "Huskies" the Rebels have faced in their last two games. UNLV last defeated then No. 5 nationally ranked and defending national champ Connecticut.

The Rebels bounce right back into action on Sunday, Sept. 30, meeting up with west coast power Portland for the second and final day of the NIKE Husky Classic hosted by Washington at 11 a.m. in Seattle.
