LAS VEGAS - The UNLV duo of Paulina Janus and Aga Abram lost to the nation's top doubles team in the final of the 2002 National Collegiate Tennis Classic Saturday.
Janus and Abram fell to top-ranked Laura Kalavaria and Gabriela Lastra of Stanford 8-2. The UNLV duo advanced to the final by getting by another Cardinal entry, Erin Burdette and Keiko Tokuda, 9-8, in one semifinal.
In singles play, 20th-ranked Vilmarie Castellvi of Tennessee needed every part of three sets to upset No. 4 Kalavaria, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. In Sunday's singles championship, she will meet No. 11 Lastra, who got by 10th-ranked teammate Erin Burdette 6-2, 7-6.
