Lady Rebels End Wolf Pack's Win Streak

LAS VEGAS - State bragging rights remain in Las Vegas as the UNLV women's basketball team defeated intrastate rival Nevada, Reno, 60-55, to end the Wolf Pack's five-game win streak Sunday afternoon at the Cox Pavilion.

Sophomore Sherry McCracklin (Hazel Crest, Ill.) led all Lady Rebel scorers with 14 points and nine rebounds, while freshman Sheena Moore (Lansing, Mich.) added 10.

UNLV opened the game with a 10-4 run and led at halftime 21-14. The Lady Rebels never looked back taking their largest lead of 15 points with 9:27 remaining in the game.

Both teams struggled offensively with UNLV going 7-of-21 from the field in the first half, bouncing back in the second half shooting an improved 57 percent (12-of-21). UNR committed 20 fouls, which led the Lady Rebels shoot 81 percent (21-26) from the free throw line.

The Wolf Pack (7-3) shot 21-of-49 from the field and were outrebounded, 30-26. Senior Kate Smith ended the contest with a game-high 19 points. With nine-tenths of a second left in regulation, Smith buried a three-pointer to cut UNLV's lead down to five.

UNR, currently the top team in the Western Athletic Conference, remains winless in Las Vegas (0-8), while the Lady Rebels extend their win streak versus the Wolf Pack to three.

UNLV (7-3) will next ring in the New Year on Saturday, Jan. 4 versus Northern Arizona at 5 p.m. in Flagstaff, Ariz.
