Feb. 21, 2002

LAS VEGAS - UNLV senior All-America candidate Linda Fr?hlich was selected to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District VIII Women's Basketball First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday.

Fr?hlich, a 6-2 forward from Oldendorf, Germany, is a psychology major at UNLV holding a 3.61 grade-point average. UNLV's all-time leading scorer (men's and women's record) is averaging 22.1 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game, the only player in the Mountain West Conference to average a double-double. Fr?hlich currently has 2,247 career points and 1,057 career rebounds to-date.

She is also the defending Mountain West Conference Player of the Year and a two-time Academic All-MWC scholar. In 2000, Fr?hlich received CoSIDA Academic All-District Third Team honors.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale), must be a starter or an important reserve and be in at least their second season of athletic and academic eligibility at their current school.

Utah's Lauren Beckman, Loyola Marymount's Kate Murray, UC Irvine's Cindy Oparah and Idaho's Darci Pemberton joined Fr?hlich on the first team all-district list.

The five first team members will now be in contention for the national Verizon Academic Women's Basketball All-America ballot. A total of 56 eligible student-athletes were nominated by 27 different schools on the District VIII ballot.
