Feb. 22, 2002

HONOLULU - The UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 295 to finish 10-over par and earn fourth place in the team standings at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at Leilehua Golf Course on Friday.

Clark Corbett was the only Rebel to break par, using a final-round 68 to finish fifth individually. Corbett's three-day total of 211, five strokes under par, trailed that of San Diego State's John Lieber by four shots. Lieber led the tourney from wire-to-wire, shooting a second straight 71 on Friday to finish nine-under par.

Lieber's play also propelled the Aztecs to a nine-stroke victory. SDSU built most of its lead in the opening round, leaving the field behind with a 14-under 274.

UNLV freshman Ryan Moore, who stood among the top 10 after both the first and second rounds, slipped to a tie for 12th after a 75 on Friday pushed him to par for the tourney.

Brandon Askew tied for 29th overall, chipping a 75 into the Rebels' final team round, and sophomore Calvin Kupeyan carded a 77. At 13-over, Kupeyan and teammate Brien Davis tied for 70th after Davis shot a final-round 79.

The Rebels return home after a 13-day visit to Hawaii. They will prepare for their upcoming home appearance at the Las Vegas Intercollegiate, to be played at Southern Highlands Golf Club March 8-10.
