Feb. 27, 2002

ATLANTA - UNLV senior forward Linda Fr?hlich will compete against the world's best players after being selected as one-of-17 top Division I seniors in the nation to compete in the 2002 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) All-Star Challenge to be held on March 30 in San Antonio, Texas.

Fr?hlich, a Kodak All-America candidate, currently leads the Mountain West Conference averaging a double-double with a team-high 22.1 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game. She is the league's two-time defending player of the year and the school's all-time leading scorer (men's and women's).

The game, to be played in conjunction with the 2002 NCAA Women's Final Four on March 29 & 31 in San Antonio, will be held at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Convocation Center at 2 p.m. (PST). The senior all-stars will match up against the 2002 USA Basketball National Team, which features Olympians and past collegiate all-stars Chamique Holdsclaw, Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie and Dawn Staley.

The 17 senior finalists were voted on by Division I Head Coaches. Fr?hlich is the first UNLV women's basketball player to be named a WBCA All-Star. The 6-2 native of Oldendorf, Germany, was also the recipient of the 2002 Russell / WBCA Scholarship Award that will be presented to her at the Final Four National Convention.

The award is presented annually to two women's college basketball players who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the sport of women's basketball and to academic excellence. The $1,000 scholarship award enables deserving student-athletes to complete their undergraduate degrees or to begin work on advanced degrees.

Fr?hlich, who is a psychology major and marketing minor at UNLV, holds a 3.61 cumulative grade-point average and was recently named to the Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team. She plans to attend graduate school in the future to attain a doctorate degree in psychology.
