Box Score

LAS VEGAS - UNLV's 13-game home win streak was snapped as the Lady Rebels were defeated by league rival Brigham Young, 64-48, Thursday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Opening the game with a quick 6-0 run, it seemed impossible that UNLV would give up a regular season series sweep to the Cougars, after losing in Provo on Feb. 2. Junior Constance Jinks (Chicago, Ill.) got things going early with a two-point basket, while the sister combination of Sherry and Dishawn McCracklin (Hazel Crest, Ill.) scored the next four points to get the Lady Rebels out in front.

At the 8:43 minute mark, BYU's Jennifer Leitner completed a layup to knot the game at 12 apiece. Four more ties would follow, until the Cougars pushed out to a 9-0 run in the final three minutes of the half to head into the lockerroom with a 32-25 lead. Leitner scored 13 points in the first half, leading to a game-high 18 points for the night.

UNLV had not lost at home, since dropping to BYU in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament on March 7, 2001. With the win, the Cougars continue to lead the all-time series 12-5.

Sherry, the younger of the McCracklin's, tied a career-high of 10 points and brought down four boards in the loss. Jinks, the only other Lady Rebel to score in double digits, had a team-high 15 points. Senior All-America candidate Linda Fr?hlich (Oldendorf, Germany) added eight points and eight rebounds.

BYU, one of the nation's top 3-point shooting teams (.410), knocked down five long distance treys to dismantle UNLV at home with a 16-point margin of victory. The Cougars improve to 18-8 overall, 9-4 MWC, which ties the Lady Rebels for third-place in the latest league standings.

UNLV (21-5 overall, 9-4 MWC) will next host Utah in the final home game of the regular season on Saturday, March 2 at 3:30 p.m. in the Thomas & Mack Center. Four UNLV seniors, Kinesha Davis, Fr?hlich, Erin Johansson and Courtney Swanson, will be honored prior to the tip-off. A live broadcast of the game can be heard locally on KENO 1460 AM radio and via an Internet link on unlvrebels.com.
