Lee Lands Laurels

Feb. 28, 2002

LAS VEGAS - On the heels of her victory at the Lady Aztec Invitational earlier this month, UNLV freshman golfer Hwanhee Lee has been recognized by two organizations.

Golf World magazine tabbed the young phenom the Player of the Week in its March 1 edition, citing her impressive performance in the wet and windy conditions in San Diego to defeat 101 other athletes.

The Mountain West Conference did not limit its honor to a week's span, declaring the Cerritos, Calif., native the league's Golfer of the Month.

Lee's victory at San Diego's Lake San Marcos Country Club on Feb. 18-19 marked the first of her career and the only in short history of the first-year UNLV women's golf program.

This season, Lee leads the Rebels and ranks ninth in the MWC with a 77.09 stroke average. She is the only player in school history to finish in the top 20 individually, let alone to win an event.

Lee and the Rebels return to the links this week as they head to Salinas, Calif., to compete in the Spartan Invitational, March 1-3 at Corral de Tierra Country Club.
