COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV senior All-American candidate Linda Fr?hlich (Oldendorf, Germany) was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week for the third time this year as announced by the conference office Monday.
Fr?hlich became UNLV's all-time leading scorer (men's and women's) after recording a team-high 22 points against BYU on Feb. 2. Fr?hlich, who already broke the Lady Rebels' all-time scoring record back on Dec. 9, 2001 at Nevada, Reno, surpassed the men's record of 2,221 career points held by former Runnin' Rebels forward Eddie Owens (1973-77). At the 14:55 minute mark of the second half against the Cougars, history was made once again as Fr?hlich sank a 3-pointer at the top of the arc, to shatter the 25-year-old record.
She currently has 2,229 career points and 1,040 rebounds to-date. Fr?hlich also had a game-high 26 points in the Lady Rebels' first ever win at Utah since the 1975-76 season and first win against the Utes in Mountain West Conference play.
For the week (1-1), Fr?hlich averaged 24 points, eight rebounds and 2.5 assists per game, while shooting 43.8 percent from the field (14-32), 40 percent from 3-point range (2-5) and 90 percent from the free throw line (18-20).
Fr?hlich has led the MWC three straight years in scoring and rebounding and currently averages 22.3 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. This is her ninth weekly conference honor of her career, which still remains a league record. She and junior Constance Jinks (Chicago, Ill.) have combined for six of the 12 weekly league awards handed out this season.
