2002 Football Signees
LAS VEGAS - UNLV's fourth recruiting class under Head Coach John Robinson was announced on the first day of the signing period as 23 student-athletes joined the Rebels Wednesday.
"As far as size, we got what we hoped for," Robinson said. "We added at least 11 big and physical guys, which is what you need today in college football. This class, combined with some very talented transfers getting ready to play this fall, means we will have more size and speed on the field."
The list features 15 freshmen, six junior-college players and two transfers from Cal State Northridge, which disbanded its football program. Three of the JC players are currently enrolled at UNLV and will take part in spring practice.
The class consists of student-athletes whose hometowns are spread among only four states: 20 from California and one each from Nevada, Arizona and Ohio. Two players were originally members of the class of 2001 but did not enter school until this semester and will be true freshmen in the fall.
This year's group is made up of 13 offensive players, including six linemen, and seven defensive players. Three players are listed as athletes with positions to be determined.
