SCOUTING REPORT
San Diego State (9-11): The Aztecs have lost their last two games on the road to Utah, 75-59, on Feb. 2 and BYU, 67-41, on Jan. 31 to put them at 1-6 in Mountain West Conference play. SDSU has totaled 204 steals in 20 games played this year (10.20 avg), the third best average in the league behind Air Force and UNLV. Senior guard Claire Swinbank leads the team in scoring with 12.4 points per game, while senior forward Atim Otii takes care of the boards averaging 6.1 rebounds per game. The Aztecs hold a 7-3 home court advantage this season in the Cox Arena.
SERIES HISTORY
Last month, the Lady Rebels jumped out to a 12-11 lead in the all-time series, after defeating the Aztecs, 67-55, on Jan. 12 in the Thomas & Mack Center. UNLV has won the last four games versus SDSU and looks to capture its second straight series sweep on Saturday. Looking back in the records history, both teams first met during the 1978-79 season with the Lady Rebels taking a 20-point margin of victory, 78-58, at home under then head coach Dan Ayala.
BACK TO THE MACK
Three doubleheaders are on tap this season, in conjunction with UNLV men's basketball games in the Thomas & Mack Center. The Lady Rebels will take on UC Santa Barbara on Dec. 30, Brigham Young on Feb. 28 and Utah on March 2, as part of the return to the Mack. The doubleheader game against BYU will tip-off at 5 p.m., while the Utah game will begin at 3:30 p.m. UNLV will also play San Diego State (Jan. 12), Air Force (Jan. 24), New Mexico (Jan. 26), Colorado State (Feb. 14) and Wyoming (Feb. 16) in the TMC, due to scheduling conflicts in the Cox Pavilion and an increase in fan attendance.
INVINCIBLE
Linda Fr?hlich is now UNLV's all-time leading scorer (men's and women's), after shattering a record held by former Runnin' Rebels lefty forward Eddie Owens (1973-77). In his four seasons at UNLV, Owens played in 118 games and racked up 2,221 career points averaging 22 minutes a game and 18.8 ppg. At the 14:55 minute mark of the second half against BYU on Feb. 2, history was made again as Fr?hlich sank a 3-pointer at the top of the arc, to shatter the 25-year-old record.
