STORYLINE: The UNLV womens' golf team returns to California for a third straight time to compete in the Pioneer Electronics Bruin Classic. The 54-hole competition begins Monday, March 11, at the Menifee Lakes Country Club (Par 72--6,019 Yards) in Menifee, Calif. Two rounds will be played on March 11 and a final 18 is scheduled for Tuesday, March 12.
ABOUT UNLV: The first-year program erupted into the spring portion of its schedule with a number of school-record performances at the Lady Aztec Invitational in San Diego on Feb. 18-19. Touted freshman Hwanhee Lee was the headliner, recording her first collegiate win as well as the school's first. Lee came from behind to win the 36-hole tourney and captured Player of the Month honors from both the Mountain West Conference and Golf World magazine. The Rebels finished 13th in their last event, the Spartan Invitational in Salinas, Calif. Head coach Kelley Hester has guided her team to 76th in the national rankings despite starting just one junior and four rookies.
FIELD: UCLA hosts 15 other teams: Brigham Young, California, Cal State Northridge, Colorado, Long Beach State, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pepperdine, Portland State, San Diego State, San Francisco, UC Irvine, UNLV and Washington State.
LINEUP: UNLV's lineup for the Bruin Classic will be Erin Borcherts, Christine Hentzner, Hwanhee Lee, Tina Mabanta, and Autumn Monteiro.
HEAD COACH KELLEY HESTER: UNLV women's golf head coach Kelley Hester is in her first season as UNLV's mentor and second overall as a head coach. The University of Georgia graduate spent one season at the helm at Mercer University before returning to her alma mater as an assistant coach for two seasons. Hester was a four-year letterwinner for the Bulldogs, earning All-SEC accolades three times and Academic All-America kudos twice.
