FORT COLLINS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women's golf junior
Zi Yu Foong claimed her first career victory Tuesday, finishing as co-medalist after completion of the second round at Colorado State's Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic at Ptarmigan Country Club (Par 72, 6,468 yards). Due to inclement weather, the scheduled third round was canceled.
REBEL ROUNDUP: Upon resumption of the second round that carried over from Monday, Foong shot a 2-under across the final four holes to give her a career-best score of 6-under 138 through 36 holes. Her final scorecard included a career-low round of 5-under 67 on the first 18 holes, a second-round 1-under 71 and 12 total birdies.
Adding another pair of Rebel top-25 finishes, freshman
Demi Du tied for 12th at even-par 144 (71-73) and sophomore
Amber Chen tied for 24th at 3-over 147 (68-79). Following the Scarlet & Gray trio were freshmen
Almina Erdogan (+5) in a tie for 39th and
Yen Liu (+7) in a tie for 52nd in their debuts.
TEAM LEADERBOARD: Colorado won the team title at 13-under 563. UNLV finished fourth in the team standings at 1-under 575, coming within four shots of Cal Poly (-5) and Cal State Fullerton (-5) in a tie for second.
QUOTABLE: "I'm incredibly proud of Zi Yu. To not only capture her first collegiate victory, but to do it by firing a personal-best score shows the kind of talent, grit and focus she possesses. This is a tremendous milestone and a testament to her hard work. It's a big win for her and for our program."
