AUSTIN, Texas - The UNLV women's golf team turned in its worst score of the season after battling extreme wind and poor weather conditions through 27 holes at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational on Monday.
The scheduled 36-hole day was suspended half way through the second round after the weather forced slow play. Temperatures in the 70s were expected, but suddenly dipped into the 40s with wind gusts between 20-30 mph.
The weather certainly took its toll on the Rebels as they fired a season-worst 340 in the first round. Hwanhee Lee and Tina Mabanta carded the squad's best rounds, 12-over 83s.
Erin Borcherts and Autumn Monteiro scored matching 87s to round out UNLV's team score. An 89 from freshman Christine Hentzner was discarded.
All 14 of the teams in contention finished well over par, paced by Duke's 13-over 297 at the Palmer Lakeside Course at Barton Creek Resort. Texas' Janice Olivencia was the only player to break par in any way and has a five-stroke lead after a three-under 68.
Second-round play will resume on Tuesday morning at 7:00 a.m. CST, immediately followed by the event's final round.
