SAN DIEGO - The 15th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team did not lose a set en route to a 7-0 whitewashing of MWC foe Wyoming at the SDSU Tennis Courts Saturday.
The Lady Rebels improved to 15-3 overall and 4-1 in the league after posting their second consecutive shutout and seventh of the season. The Cowgirls fell to 5-9 and 0-2.
UNLV opened the day by sweeping three doubles matches for one team point.
In singles play, 88th-ranked Gyorgyi Zsiros made her debut at the No. 1 position and won over Jenny Bowman 6-4, 7-6 to improve to 24-7 overall. The freshman from Budapest, Hungary, also extended her winning streak to 13.
Also winning in straight sets was 71st-ranked Paulina Janus, who dispatched Yuliani Santi 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. The Lady Rebels also got points from Agnieszka Abram at No. 3, Tracie Chong at No. 4, Marianne Bakken at No. 5 and Amy Hadziosmanovic on the sixth court.
"It has been a long two weeks, playing eight matches in 17 days, but I feel good about the position this team is in," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "We are looking forward to taking a few days off and preparing for our final road trip."
The second-place Lady Rebels will close out their regular season with a match at Air Force on April 6 and vs. New Mexico on April 7 in Colorado Springs.
