SALINAS, Calif. - Freshman golfer Hwanhee Lee continued to be the hottest player in the Rebels' lineup, leading the UNLV women's golf team to a 14th-place showing after the first round of the Spartan Invitational at Corral de Tierra Golf Course on Monday.

In her first competition since winning the Lady Aztec Invitational in February, Lee carded a three-over par 75 and is currently tied for 21st place at the 16-team, 83-participant tourney.

Lee was the only Rebel to break 80 on the day and guided the team to a 33-over 321.

"We struggled today," head coach Kelley Hester said. "We had too many big numbers, which we don't usually do."

Trailing Lee was freshman Christine Hentzner, a walk-on from Las Vegas who has earned a spot in the Rebels' regular lineup. Hentzner sits tied for 57th after firing an 80.

Tina Mabanta and Erin Borcherts chipped in matching 83s to round out the team's scoring. Autumn Monteiro's 86 was not used.

"I think maybe we were feeling some pressure after doing so well in San Diego," Hester said. "At times, we didn't look like we were having fun out there, and the conditions were perfect, so we should have been having fun. If we relax and have some fun tomorrow, we'll be where we need to be."

Second-round play at the Spartan Invite, hosted by San Jose State, will begin at 8:00 a.m. PST on Tuesday.
