Linda Fr?hlich Named MWC Player of the Year

March 5, 2002

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - For the third straight season, UNLV senior All-America candidate Linda Fr?hlich was named Mountain West Conference Player of the Year as announced by the conference office Tuesday.

The Oldendorf, Germany native has led the conference in scoring and rebounding for three consecutive years. Fr?hlich, a 6-2 forward and the league's top returning player for the past three seasons, is averaging 21.6 ppg and 10.4 rpg. She was also named first-team all-conference for a third time.

Fr?hlich becomes the first UNLV basketball player (men's or women's) in school history to garner conference player of the year three times and first team honors four times. She is also the school's all-time leading scorer with 2,300 career points to-date and nears the all-time school record for rebounds (1,082 career rebounds to-date).

Junior guard Constance Jinks (Chicago, Ill.), the conference's second leading scorer averaging 17.0 ppg, was also named to the first team. This is her second all-conference award, being named to the third team in 2001. Sophomore center Petra Gl?ser (Amtsberg, Germany) received honorable mention recognition.

Eight seniors, six juniors and one freshman made up this year's all-conference team selected by the league's head coaches.
