SALINAS, Calif. - The UNLV women's golf team did gain one position in the team standings after the final round of the Spartan Invitational on Wednesday, but managed only to finish in 13th place among the 16-team field.

In doing so, the Rebels leapt past Oregon State in head-to-head competition, but missed an opportunity to climb to 12th and defeat Oregon after scoring a combined 13-over on the round's last three holes.

"We kind of stumbled coming in, but we passed Oregon State and didn't lose any ground," UNLV head coach Kelley Hester said. "There was some rain and bad conditions, but I told the team that we will learn to be a little more mentally tough, and next time we are in that situation, I feel confident we will come in on the other side of the coin."

The Rebels' (321-309-315--945) best round of the day came from junior Erin Borcherts (83-77-74--234), who shaved nine strokes off her first-round score and climbed to 45th place on the individual leaderboard.

The Rebels' tournament leader, for the fourth time in five events this year, was freshman Hwanhee Lee (73-76-80--231). Despite a final-round score of 80, she finished tied for 37th.

Autumn Monteiro (86-79-80--245) matched Lee's final-round score and climbed to 69th place. Tina Mabanta (83-77-81--241) counted 81 strokes toward the team's 315 and finished tied for 64th, two strokes ahead of teammate Christine Hentzner (80-80-83--243).

California (289-300-297--886), which led after each round, held on for a one-stroke victory over Pepperdine (294-297-296--887) and Washington (306-285-296--887). South Carolina's Kristy McPherson (71-69-71--211) claimed medalist honors.

The Rebels make a third consecutive trip to California next week as the head to Menifee, Calif., to compete in the Pioneer Electrics Bruin Classic on March 11-12.
