Sunny Days Ahead For Women's Golf

April 16, 2002

LAS VEGAS - California junior golf star Sunny Oh has signed a National Letter of Intent to play at UNLV, women's golf head coach Kelley Hester announced Tuesday.

Oh, ranked 16th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Girls Rankings, joins Elena Kurokawa in completing the Rebels' 2002-03 recruiting class. Both junior players will play as freshmen next fall.

"Sunny is really going to help this program turn the corner," Hester said. "She'll be able to make an immediate impact in the lineup and really upgrade our level of talent."

A native of Seoul, Korea, Oh has spent her last three summers playing on the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) circuit out of Torrance, Calif. She has had plenty of success, earning AJGO honorable mention All-American honors last summer after posting five top-five finishes and a victory at the Independent Insurance Agents Junior Classic in Ann Arbor, Mich while playing in only 10 events. In 2000, she was a top-five finisher four times in nine events.

A recent graduate of Sewha Girls Senior High School in Seoul, Oh plans to study hotel management, physical therapy or Japanese at UNLV.
