SUNRIVER, Ore. - The UNLV women's golf team matched its all-time best team round at the Mountain West Conference Championship on Monday, shooting 305 in the tourney's first round.
The Rebels sit in fourth place, four strokes behind Colorado State in third and 12 behind first-round leader New Mexico.
"The weather was pretty good, the course is good for us, and we should expect good scores," UNLV women's golf head coach Kelley Hester said. "I believe we could have been even better, and we will be if we just try to beat our own scores rather than worry about other people."
UNLV's round of 305 matches the team's best ever round, carded at the Bruin Classic on March 11.
Erin Borcherts and Hwanhee Lee led the way for UNLV, both carding 75 on the par-71 Meadows Course. They are tied for 10th in the 30-participant field.
Christine Hentzner's 77 and Tina Mabanta's 78 completed the squad's 21-over par score. They sit 14th and 15th respectively. Autumn Monteiro's 83 was not figured into the team total, but puts her in a tie for 28th place.
Second-round play will begin on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.
