SUNRIVER, Ore. - For the second straight round, the UNLV women's golf team carded a team-best score, and the Rebels sit in fourth place after two rounds at the Mountain West Conference Championship.
The Rebels shot 303 on Tuesday, trimming two strokes off yesterday's first-round 305. The team's Monday total matched the team's best-ever round
"The one important thing we haven't done is shot ourselves in the foot," UNLV head coach Kelley Hester said. "Our goal this year was to play our best golf in the spring. Yesterday we tied our lowest round and today we beat that, and what's even more encouraging is that we could have been much better."
The Rebels are 14 strokes behind San Diego State, which overtook the lead after shooting 298 in the second round.
Erin Borcherts and Hwanhee Lee found themselves just where they ended first-round play -- in a tie with each other. The duo both shaved a stroke off their Monday total and sit tied for sixth, seven-over par.
Par is the score against which they will compete in Wednesday's final round as Colorado State's Lynette Duran's even score leads the 30-player field.
The course played the same for Christine Hentzner and Tina Mabanta on Tuesday. Both players matched their first-round total. Hentzner's second straight 77 puts her in 16th place, 12-over par, and Mabanta is just two strokes behind and tied for 17th.
Autumn Monteiro took 80 swings on Tuesday and sits in 27th place overall
The final round will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
