LAS VEGAS - Three UNLV golfers have qualified to play in the 2002 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship next month in Sunriver, Ore., and two others are alternates.
Headlining the Rebels' qualifiers was freshman Hwanhee Lee. Lee won the Las Vegas sectional qualifier at Silverstone Golf Course on Monday, carding a 68 to match the best score posted in any of the more than 30 area qualifiers.
The other 68 was fired by Angie Yoon of San Diego and came out of a Thursday qualifying round at the SCGA Members Club in Murrieta, Calif. Yoon finished three strokes ahead of Sunny Oh, a Rebel-to-be from Torrance, Calif., who still qualified with a 71.
Elena Kurokawa, another golfer bound for UNLV next fall, also qualified in Murrieta, shooting 73.
Current Rebels Christine Hentzner and Young Pak just missed the qualifying cut in Las Vegas after rounds of 74 and 77 respectively, but are the top two alternates from the section.
The Public Links Championship will be played at Sunriver Resort's Meadows Course, the same site as this year's Mountain West Conference Women's Golf Championship, on June 18-23.
