LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team handed Weber State a 2-0 shutout on the final day of the UNLV / FILA Classic Sunday afternoon at Peter Johann Memorial Field.

Freshman Jessica Brown, a Las Vegas native out of Bishop Gorman High School, opened the scoring at 28:03 off a dead ball free kick from 40-yards out. This marked Brown's second career goal and first game-winner of the season.

Later in the second half, senior co-captain Cosette (Joffs) Packer (Henderson, Nev.) headed the ball off a perfect leftside cross pass from senior Kelly Janke (Bellflower, Calif.) for the two-goal lead. Weber State fell short and could not find the back of the net on 11 shot attempts.

Freshman goalkeeper Jenna Huff (Huntington Beach, Calif.) earned the shutout with three saves to improve to 2-0 on the season. Melanie Stratford had four stops in goal for Weber State.

The Rebels will next travel to Southern Utah for a single-game road match on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 4 p.m. The Thunderbirds will be one of a five-game road stretch for UNLV in the coming weeks.
