Box Score

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Eighth-ranked San Diego held its own after handing the UNLV men's soccer team a 3-0 shutout Sunday afternoon at Torero Stadium.

USD scored two goals in the first half, one an own goal given up by the Rebels and the second on a close-in header by senior Ryan Coiner off a cross pass by teammate Tyler Conley at the 22:87 minute mark.

In the 66th minute, Coiner scored his ninth goal of the season on a breakaway chip shot over UNLV senior goalkeeper Justin Dennis (Scottsdale, Ariz.) to claim the shutout. Dennis made three saves in goal before being relieved by freshman Peter Clitheroe (Cheshire, England), who played the remaining 12 minutes of regulation, his first appearance as a Rebel.

The Toreros, perennial soccer powers on the West Coast, extend their win streak versus the Rebels to five consecutive games. UNLV last defeated San Diego in 1992. The Rebels are 1-3 against top 25 competition this season.

UNLV returns home this weekend to face UC Riverside on Sunday, Oct. 6 at noon. The game will be played at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
