KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The UNLV women's golf team shaved one stroke off its opening-round score, shooting 302 to move into sixth place after two rounds of play at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship on Monday.
The Rebels began the day in ninth, but moved into a three-way tie for sixth place with a 14-over par round at the par-72, 6,201-yard Fox Den Country Club. Level with UNLV is the Swedish National Team, which tumbled after beginning the day in the lead, and Arkansas, coached by former UNLV mentor Kelley Hester.
All three teams sit 17 strokes behind Ohio State, which is clinging to a one-stroke lead over Oklahoma State. Individually, the Buckeyes' Allison Hanna took over the lead at two-under after a three-under 69 for the day.
Junior Hwanhee Lee sits in a tie for 10th place after improving her score in the second frame. She followed Sunday's 74 with a 73 and is just five shots off Hanna's pace.
Sophomore Sunny Oh rebounded from a team-high 78 on Sunday with a two-over 74 on Monday and moved into the top 30.
Elena Kurokawa is tied for 38th place, one shot behind Oh after shooting 78. Seema Sadekar matched her first-round 77 and is tied for 42nd at 10-over, and Young Pak is a stroke behind Sadekar after a second-round 78.
The Rebels begin the final round of play at 9:00 a.m. EDT on Tuesday.
