FULLERTON, Calif. - Junior forward RanDee Henry scored a game-high 19 points and Sherry McCracklin posted her sixth straight double-double to lead UNLV to a 71-59 win at Cal State Fullerton in women's collegiate basketball action in Fullerton, Calif., in Titan Gym. The Lady Rebels earned their fourth straight victory to improve to 5-1 on the season, while Cal State Fullerton fell to 0-7.
The Titans' shooting kept them in the game during the first half, as they began hitting over 50 percent and trailed by just single digits for the majority of the opening half. After an Ariel Adams jumper cut the UNLV lead to just three, 28-25 with 2:45 left, the Lady Rebels closed the half on an 11-0 run for a 39-25 halftime advantage. Nine of the 11 points during the run came from McCracklin, on a three-point play and six free throws.
UNLV began the second half the way it ended the first. The Lady Rebels blitzed the Titans with a 14-5 run over the first 6:37 of the second half to open their largest lead of the game, 53-30 with 13:23 left. The lead remained around 20 points for the rest of the game, until UNLV put its third team in for the last four minutes. The Titans finished the game on an 11-2 spurt to account for the final score of 71-59.
Henry finished 7-of-8 from the floor and was 4-of-4 at the line for her 19 points. McCracklin tallied 14 points and 13 rebounds for her sixth double-double in as many games. Also posting double figures was Nikki Hitchens with 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, and InFini Robinson with 13 points, four assists, and four steals. As a team, UNLV shot 46% (23-50), including 56.5% in the second half. They were 19-of-26 (73.1%) at the line, and hit four of eight from behind the arc. The Lady Rebels held a 42-32 edge on the boards, and finished with 12 steals.
Charlee Underwood's career-high 15 points led Cal State Fullerton, while Catherine Holman also came off the bench to score in double figures with 10 points. Holman also added nine rebounds. The Titans were held to 37.7 percent from the floor, and were forced into 22 turnovers.
The Lady Rebels will remain in California as they take on Loyola Marymount on Monday at 7 p.m. in Los Angeles.
