Henry, Lady Rebels Run Past Wolf Pack

RENO, Nev. - Junior forward RanDee Henry scored a season-high 29 points and UNLV had two players post double-doubles as the Lady Rebels won their third straight game, 90-75 at intrastate rival Nevada, Reno on Saturday night in the Lawlor Events Center. UNLV broke the game open with a 53-point second half, and shot a season-high 51.6% from the floor to improve to 4-1 on the year, and post its fourth straight win over UNR. The Wolf Pack fell to 0-5 on the season.

For the second time this season, both Henry and junior forward Sherry McCracklin finished with double-doubles in the same game for UNLV. Henry was 11-of-16 from the floor, 7-of-11 from the line and added 14 rebounds, while McCracklin registered her fifth double-double of the season in as many games, and the 13th of her career after tallying 13 points, 10 rebounds, a career-high five steals, and a career-high tying four blocks.

The Wolfpack jumped out to an early lead, as they hit 11 of their first 14 shots on the way to building a 24-17 advantage. UNLV would respond however, and used a 19-2 run over a 4:18 span to take a 35-26 edge, a lead they would hold the rest of the game. Six different Lady Rebels scored during the run, and they took a 37-35 lead into halftime.

UNR cut the lead to one three times in the second half, the last on April Bankston's jumper at 16:25 to make the score 41-40. The Lady Rebels then put the game away with a 16-2 run over the next 4:15, for a 57-42 lead with 12:10 left on the clock. The lead increased to as high as 19 in the second half for UNLV, who won for the second straight trip to Reno.

Joining Henry and McCracklin in double figures was InFini Robinson with 11 points and Nikki Hitchens with 10 points. The Lady Rebels shot above 50% from the floor for the first time this season, hitting 33-of-64 (51.6%), and outrebounded its opponent for the fifth time this year, 43-30. They also forced 31 turnovers and recorded 20 steals, though were forced into 30 turnovers themselves.

UNR was paced by Shermeka Henry with 17 points and seven rebounds before fouling out. Bankston added 14 points and Traci Graham 13. The Wolf Pack shot 55.6% in the first half, but were held to 39.4% in the second, and finished at 46.7% (28-60) for the game.

UNLV will now break for exams before taking a two-game road trip to Cal State Fullerton and Loyola Marymount next weekend. The Lady Rebels will face Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 5 pm, and then take on LMU on Monday, Dec. 15 at 7 pm.
