PROVO, Utah - BYU's Erin Thorn scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Cougars to a 63-51 conference win over archrival UNLV Thursday night at the Marriott Center.
The Lady Rebels quickly opened scoring with a 6-0 run, but were later answered back by Thorn and teammate Ambrosia Anderson's two consecutive makes from behind the arc, which tied the game up at 14:51. Seconds later, Anderson, who scored all of her 14 points of the game in the first half of play, gave the Cougars the lead for good on her third three-pointer of the night.
BYU (15-8, 6-4) currently leads the Mountain West Conference in three-point accuracy this season (.373) and converted 8-of-18 three-pointers for the game. The Cougars took a 40-20 lead into halftime and led by as many as 25 points with 7:07 remaining.
Last month in Las Vegas, the Lady Rebels defeated BYU, 73-69, and had taken a 26-point advantage into halftime over the Cougars on Jan. 25. UNLV has yet to win a road game in conference play at the Marriott Center.
Senior All-America candidate Constance Jinks (Chicago, Ill.) was the only Lady Rebel to score in double figures with 13 points. Sophomore Sherry McCracklin (Hazel Crest, Ill.) added six points and 11 rebounds, while older sister Dishawn McCracklin and senior reserve InFini Robinson (Detroit, Mich.) each contributed seven.
A strong 8-0 run capped the final minutes of regulation for the Lady Rebels, but it would not be enough for a comeback. UNLV committed 21 turnovers and shot 34 percent from the floor (19-56). BYU and UNLV split the regular season series, 1-1.
The Lady Rebels (14-8, 5-4) remain on the road and will next take on conference leader Utah (19-4, 9-1) on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m. (MST) in Salt Lake City.
SENIOR DAY TIME CHANGE: Due to a scheduling conflict with a boxing event to be held in the adjacent Thomas & Mack Center, the UNLV vs. Air Force game on Saturday, March 1 has been rescheduled for a 2 p.m. start at Cox Pavilion. Join the Lady Rebels for "Senior Day" festivities as the team honors its five graduating seniors prior to tip-off.
