LAS VEGAS - The 18th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team did not lose a set in a 7-0 whitewashing of former Big West and WAC rival San Jose State at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Sunday.
The Lady Rebels improved to 4-1 this season and 4-0 all-time in the series while the Spartans, who were without their top player because of injury, fell to 1-7 overall.
UNLV opened the day by sweeping three doubles matches for one team point. Paulina Janus and Agnieszka Abram won at the top spot 8-3, Tracie Chong and Cindy Treber combined for an 8-2 win at No. 2 and Gyorgyi Zsiros and Amy Hadziosmanovic teamed up for an 8-1 victory on Court Three.
In singles play, 85th-ranked Janus won 6-3, 6-2 over Coral Silverstone at the top position. At the second spot, No. 120 Gyorgyi Zsiros got by Noelle Lee 6-3, 6-4. Also winning in straight sets for UNLV were Chong at No.3, Treber at No. 4, Hadziosmanovic at No. 5 and Jackie White on Court Six.
"Today was a good example of how well our tennis team can play," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "I was especially pleased with the performance of senior Jackie White. After getting down early by a break, she stepped and played aggressively to win the match in straight sets."
The Lady Rebels continue this homestand by hosting their three-day spring invitational beginning on Friday.
