Beavers Bash Rebels

Feb. 8, 2003

PHOENIX - Oregon State hit four home runs and scored in all but one inning en route to a 9-2 victory over the UNLV softball team at the Fiesta Bowl Tournament on Saturday.

The 23rd-ranked Beavers (7-0) took an early lead on a two-run blast by Shelly Prochaska in the top of the first and never looked back.

UNLV (2-5) held OSU scoreless in the second , but fell behind 3-0 when Prochaska led off the third with another homer, a solo shot to center.

UNLV had its chances in the bottom of the inning. A Bridget Byrne walk and singles by Kacey Ellis and Lisa Moses set the table for Wendy Godwin. But Godwin hit into a fielder's choice and Pauline Glenn struck out, ending the inning and the Rebels' scoring opportunity.

From there, the Beavers continued their assault, scoring two more in the fourth on a two-run blast by Brynnan Guthrie, and another in the fifth on a solo shot by Adrienne Alo to go up 6-0 and chase Rebel starter Becky McDonald.

UNLV finally got on the scoreboard in the sixth behind a home run from Pauline Glenn, her second in as many games.

Ellis and Moses both tallied a pair of hits in the game, and Byrne extended her hitting streak to six games with a leadoff single.

The Rebels continue play in the Fiesta Bowl Tournament with remaining matchups against Texas Tech and Southwest Texas State.
