Can't Go Wrong With Jinks

LAS VEGAS - Senior All-America candidate Constance Jinks (Chicago, Ill.) scored 12 of her game-high 26 points in the first half as the UNLV women's basketball team went on to defeat league rival Colorado State, 90-71, Saturday night at Cox Pavilion.

The Lady Rebels shot a season-high 51 percent from the field (33-65) and never trailed the entire contest. UNLV used a 23-9 run in the first seven minutes of play on four three-pointers made by Jinks and senior Julia Gray (Riverside, Calif.). Gray converted on 4-of-8 makes from behind the arc and ended the night with a career-high tying 18 points.

Also scoring in double figures for the Lady Rebels were sophomore Sherry McCracklin (Hazel Crest, Ill.) with 14 points and freshman Sheena Moore (Lansing, Mich.) with 15. Senior Dishawn McCracklin (Hazel Crest, Ill.) brought down a game-high 11 rebounds as UNLV outrebounded CSU, 41-29.

Colorado State (11-10, 2-5) has now lost three straight against UNLV dating back to a 71-59 loss on Feb. 14, 2002, in Las Vegas. The Rams played without top players Jasai Ferrucho, Lisa Narkiewicz and Ashley Venekamp. Ferrucho was ejected from Thursday's contest versus San Diego State, while Narkiewicz and Venekamp have been recovering from injury and illness. UNLV wins only its fifth victory ever against CSU in 16 all-time meetings.

Next weekend, the Lady Rebels (13-7, 4-3) begin the second half of conference play hosting San Diego State (8-11, 2-5) on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7:35 p.m.

GOOD FOR ANOTHER ROUND: The UNLV vs. Colorado State game will be rebroadcast locally on Sunday, Feb. 9 on KTUD channel 25 / cable 14 at 4 p.m.
