The Skies The Limit For Jinks And Lady Rebels

LAS VEGAS - Senior All-America candidate Constance Jinks (Chicago, Ill.) scored 29 of her game-high 40 points in the first half as the UNLV women's basketball team rolled on to an 81-49 win over Air Force Saturday afternoon at Cox Pavilion.

Jinks tied her previous career-high of 40 points, which is also a Mountain West Conference single game scoring record. She shot 76 percent from the field (16-21) and knocked down four three-pointers for the game.

Senior Casey Homan (Reno, Nev.) made her first career start and was the only other Lady Rebel to score in double-digits with 10 points. Teammate Julia Gray (Riverside, Calif.), also a senior, dished out a career-high 12 assists and made six steals.

The Lady Rebels scored 45 points off 33 turnovers committed by Air Force (7-18, 1-11). Junior Shawna Neff led the Falcons with a team-high 19 points. In the all-time series, Air Force remains winless in Las Vegas.

Seniors Talisha Mitchell (Stockton, Calif.) and Dishawn McCracklin (Hazel Crest, Ill.) were honored along with Jinks, Homan and Gray prior to tip-off on Senior Day.

With the win, the Lady Rebels are tied for second-place in the latest Mountain West Conference standings. Utah (21-4, 11-1) clinched the league regular season title outright with a 71-66 victory over BYU (16-9, 7-5) earlier today.

Up next, UNLV (16-9, 7-5) takes to the road for its final two games of the regular season. The Lady Rebels will face Colorado State on Wednesday, March 5 at 7 p.m. (MST) in Fort Collins and Wyoming on Friday, March 7 at 7 p.m. (MST) in Laramie.

TWICE THE ACTION, TWICE THE FUN: The UNLV vs. Air Force game will be rebroadcast locally on Sunday, March 2 on KTUD channel 25 / cable 14 at 4 p.m.

SCHOLARLY ADVANCES: Lady Rebel booster Robby Franks has started a special scholarship fund of $500 to be presented annually to a selected women's basketball student-athlete. Sheena Moore (Lansing, Mich.) is the first recipient of the newly created Constance Jinks Spark Plug Scholarship Award. Moore, a freshman guard on the team, looks to major in business management at UNLV.
