SALINAS, Calif. - The UNLV women's golf team fired back-to-back rounds of 299 and sits in fifth place after two rounds of play at the Spartan Invitational on Tuesday.

At 22-over par, the Rebels trail No. 5 Pepperdine by 31 strokes for the team lead. The Waves blistered the morning round with a 13-under 275 before closing the day with a 292 round.

The rest of the field is well within the Rebels' striking distance. UNLV is just one shot behind No. 7 California, trails No. 13 UCLA by 13 shots, and leads No. 10 Washington by five strokes.

Individually, two Rebels grace the top 20. Freshman Sunny Oh was tied for third after carding an impressive three-under 69 in the day's first round, but fell to 12th place overall after shooting 79 in the nightcap.

Sophomore Hwanhee Lee sits one stroke behind Oh at five-over and is tied for 15th. Lee shot rounds of 76 and 73.

Despite their impressive play, both players trail Pepperdine's Katherine Hull by a significant amount. Hull is 10-under par after rounds of 63 and 71.

Sophomore Tina Mabanta threw scores of 77 and 75 respectively into the UNLV total and is tied for 27th. Tied for 42nd place at 12-over par are Elena Kurokawa (84-72--156) and Christine Hentzner (77-79--156).

Final round play will begin Wednesday morning at 8:00 a.m.
