TEMPE, Ariz. - The UNLV men's golf team leapt ahead of four schools in the final round of the ASU Invitational to finish in ninth place at 18-under par.

The Rebels carded a team round of 14-under 274, their best round of the 54-hole tourney, and moved past Houston, Brigham Young, San Diego State and New Mexico. Arizona State cruised to the team victory on its home course, finishing the tourney at 40-under.

TCU's David Schultz captured individual honors, shooting 68, 66, and 67 for a 15-under par 201.

Just six strokes behind Schultz was UNLV sophomore Travis Whisman, who also went under par in all three rounds to finish tied for seventh.

Freshman Ryan Keeney, who finished fifth in his collegiate debut two weeks ago, followed Whisman in a tie for 17th place at seven-under.

Brien Davis shot a final-round 68 to finish in 36th place at three-under, and JC Deacon fired a 74 to finish tied for 86th at five-over. Mitch Carlson's 77 was discarded from the daily total and landed him in a tie for 90th place at six-over.

The Rebels lie idle until the end of the month when they head to Sunriver, Ore., to compete in the Mountain West Conference Championship, May 1-3.
