ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 8 UNLV men's golf team shot a first-round 11-over-par 297 and followed with a second-round one-over 289 to sit in fourth place after the first day of the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate at the par 72, 7,354 yard UNM Championship Course on Friday.
The Rebels (297-289-586) sit 18 shots behind team leader Arizona State (282-286-568). New Mexico (291-287-578) is in second place followed by Texas Tech (289-290-579). Texas A&M (290-298-588), Stanford (288-300-588) and San Diego State (293-295-588) are all tied for fifth. There are a total of 20 teams competing in the tournament.
Ryan Kenney (74-72-146) leads all Rebel players and is in a tie for 20th at two-over. Texas Tech's William Haddrell (70-67-137) and Hawaii's Matthew Kodama (68-69-137) are tied for the individual lead at seven-under.
Other Rebels competing are Ryan Moore (T31; 76-71-147), J.C. Deacon (T31; 73-74-147), Travis Whisman (T47; 74-75-149) and Sam Hunt (T47; 77-72-149).
The tournament, which is UNLV's first of the season, will end on Saturday with 18 holes.
